Fire station number three does not<br />

have a basement or safe refuge<br />

area for personnel during a fast<br />

moving severe storm. FS #3 would<br />

be retrofitted with a safe room<br />

people. The room would be<br />

capable of protecting <strong>the</strong> on-duty<br />

crew as well as up to 45 additional<br />

people.<br />

Fire Department Generator<br />

Project. During hazard events<br />

power is disrupted at critical<br />

facilities. Fire station number five<br />

does not currently have a<br />

generator capable of providing<br />

back up power for critical<br />

functions. FS #5 would have a<br />

generator installed that would be<br />

capable of providing power to all<br />

critical functions within <strong>the</strong><br />

building. The generator would<br />

have a fuel reservoir capable of 48-<br />

72 hours of operating time.<br />

NFIP – Program has been<br />

implemented and requires<br />

regulation of all construction<br />

within <strong>the</strong> FEMA regulated<br />

floodplain<br />

Fire Station Windstorm Damage<br />

Mitigation. Retrofit four of <strong>the</strong> five<br />

fire stations in Overland Park with<br />

wind resistant/energy efficient<br />

doors. All large surface area<br />

windows would be fitted with<br />

storm panels or shutters. Fire<br />

station number five is scheduled<br />

for replacement in <strong>the</strong> near future,<br />

and would include iwnd resistant<br />

doors as part of <strong>the</strong> design<br />

specifications. The weakest points<br />

of <strong>the</strong> structures are apparatus bay<br />

doors and large surface area<br />
