15 Appoint a rural fire committee to<br />

schedule meetings with <strong>the</strong><br />

Kansas Forest Service to map<br />

suspected hazardous wildfire<br />

areas in <strong>the</strong> county for potential<br />

participation in <strong>the</strong> Community<br />

Wildfire Protection Program<br />

(CWPP). In order for a community<br />

to take advantage of <strong>the</strong><br />

Community based Healthy forests<br />

Restoration Act (HFRA), 2003, a<br />

community must develop a<br />

Community Wildfire Protection<br />

Plan (CWPP). To develop<br />

qualifications <strong>the</strong> community must<br />

identify and map potential hazard<br />

areas as an initial step towards<br />

participation in <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

16 Incorporate wildfire maps, develop<br />

actions and projects for wildfire<br />

prevention, and complete an<br />

assessment report to meet CWPP<br />

requirements for submittal to <strong>the</strong><br />

Kansas Forest Service. The<br />

minimum requirements<br />

participation in <strong>the</strong> CWPP as<br />

described in <strong>the</strong> HFRA are: (1)<br />

Collaboration: A CWPP must be<br />

collaboratively developed by local<br />

and state government<br />

representatives, in consultation<br />

with federal agencies and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
