within <strong>the</strong> city limits of Tonganoxie.<br />

6 Seek contractors proposal to perform<br />

storm water quality monitoring in <strong>the</strong><br />

City of Tonganoxie. The City of<br />

Tonganoxie has identified a need to<br />

have a contractor perform storm<br />

water quality monitoring on a routine<br />

basis within <strong>the</strong> City of Tonganoxie.<br />

7 Incorporate <strong>the</strong> inspection and<br />

management of trees into <strong>the</strong> city<br />

maintenance program that may pose<br />

a threat to <strong>the</strong> electrical lines that<br />

could result in power outages during<br />

ice storms. Significant amounts of<br />

property damage occur during ice<br />

storms that result from tree failure.<br />

Trees that fall into utility lines have<br />

additional serious consequences<br />

such as causing power outages,<br />

surges, fires and o<strong>the</strong>r damage. The<br />

jurisdiction’s ability to recognize and<br />

prevent hazardous tree conditions<br />

(through inspection, pruning or<br />

removal) is <strong>the</strong> best defense against<br />

problems and costly damages<br />

resulting from tree failure.<br />

Specifically, trees located on<br />

jurisdictional property, which pose<br />

immediate threats to property, utility<br />

lines and o<strong>the</strong>r critical facilities<br />

should be addressed.<br />

8 Conduct a study to determine <strong>the</strong><br />

efficacy of <strong>the</strong> existing warning siren<br />

system within <strong>the</strong> Jurisdiction, and<br />

repair and install new sirens as<br />

needed to ensure area coverage.<br />

Reduce <strong>the</strong> possibility of damages<br />

and loss of life to <strong>the</strong> citizens by<br />

maintaining and upgrading <strong>the</strong> early<br />

warning system for <strong>the</strong> City of<br />

Tonganoxie.<br />

9 Create a working group to assess<br />

<strong>the</strong> county’s firefighting / EMS<br />

resources to identify any existing<br />

needs or shortfalls in terms of<br />

personnel, equipment or additional<br />

required resources. A survey should<br />

be completed in order to verify <strong>the</strong><br />

county’s current firefighting / EMS<br />
