Previous Occurrences<br />

This section discusses previous occurrences for dam and levee failure in Region L:<br />

Dam Failure<br />

According to Stanford University‘s National Performance of Dams Program, <strong>the</strong>re were 31 dam<br />

incidents in Kansas between 1925 and 2002. Of <strong>the</strong>se 31 incidents, 7 (23 percent) of <strong>the</strong>m were<br />

failures. While Region L had 4 incidences, none of <strong>the</strong>m were dam failures. Table 3.23 reflects<br />

<strong>the</strong> dams in Region L that had incidences.<br />
