City of Lake Quivira<br />

Lake Quivira is located in <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn section of<br />

Johnson County surrounded by <strong>the</strong> city of<br />

Shawnee and Wyandotte County. This small residential<br />

suburb has its own 225-acre lake, golf<br />

course and amenities. The City has a mayor/city council<br />

form of government with several city<br />

departments. Departments are Administration, City<br />

Clerk, Fire and Police.<br />

Land Use and Development Trends<br />

In 2010, <strong>the</strong> population of Lake Quivira was 906, a decrease of 26 people since 2000. Land<br />

area of <strong>the</strong> city is 1.30 square miles, and population density in 2010 was 696.9 people per<br />

square mile.<br />

Technical and Fiscal Resources<br />

Lake Quivira has a planner experienced in land management and engineering infrastructure.<br />

The Fire Chief also serves as <strong>the</strong> City’s Emergency Manager. T<strong>here</strong> is a part-time building<br />

official as well as a part-time treasurer.<br />

Financial tools or resources that <strong>the</strong> city could potentially use to help fund mitigation activities<br />

include <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

• Capital improvements project funding<br />

• Johnson County Stormwater Management Program<br />
