<strong>the</strong>se are being updated on an as needed basis for specific projects.<br />

Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism<br />

State Wildlife Grants Private Lands Program - This program provides cost-share to private<br />

landowners for <strong>the</strong> construction, establishment, and enhancement of grasslands, wetlands and<br />

riparian habitat. Request for proposals are announced annually and funds are awarded based<br />

on ecological priorities.<br />

Project Review Program - This program provides technical assistance to project sponsors to<br />

mitigate impacts to grassland, wetland, and stream habitat as a result of development projects.<br />

Staff works with development sponsors to avoid and minimize impacts through native habitat<br />

restoration measures and natural stream design techniques.<br />

Stream Survey and Assessment Program - The purpose of this program is to document <strong>the</strong><br />

current range and distribution of aquatic species, including aquatic nuisance species. O<strong>the</strong>r<br />

objectives include establishing baseline data and monitoring fish kill and o<strong>the</strong>r natural resource<br />

damage assessments.<br />

FEMA Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk Map)<br />

In fiscal year 2009, FEMA began transitioning from Flood Map Modernization to Risk MAP. The<br />

Risk MAP strategy incorporates floodplain management with hazard mitigation by using tools<br />

such as DFIRMS, HAZUS reports, and risk assessment data to deliver quality data that<br />

increases public awareness and leads to action to reduce risk to life and property.<br />

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration StormReady Program<br />

StormReady is a voluntary program that was developed by <strong>the</strong> National Oceanic and<br />

Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Wea<strong>the</strong>r Service (NWS) to help communities<br />

better prepare for and mitigate effects of all types of severe wea<strong>the</strong>r—from tornadoes to<br />

flooding. The program encourages communities to take a new, proactive approach to improving<br />

local hazardous wea<strong>the</strong>r operations by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines<br />

on how to improve <strong>the</strong>ir hazardous wea<strong>the</strong>r operations. StormReady is designed to help<br />

community leaders and emergency managers streng<strong>the</strong>n local safety programs. To be officially<br />

StormReady, a community must:<br />

• Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center,<br />

• Have more than one way to receive severe wea<strong>the</strong>r warnings and forecasts and to alert<br />

<strong>the</strong> public,<br />

• Create a system that monitors wea<strong>the</strong>r conditions locally,<br />

• Promote <strong>the</strong> importance of public readiness through community seminars, and<br />
