Levee Failure<br />

• 2011 Flood: USACE reported that every non-federal levee from Rulo to Wolcott, Kansas on<br />

both sides of <strong>the</strong> river were ei<strong>the</strong>r overtopped or breached as a result of this flood.<br />

Specifically, <strong>the</strong> following levees along <strong>the</strong> Missouri River and tributaries in Leavenworth<br />

County were breached.<br />

− Grape Bollin-Schwartz levee<br />

− Sherman Airfield Levee (federal levee)—water reached <strong>the</strong> hangars which had been<br />

evacuated.<br />

− Ft. Leavenworth levee<br />

− Kansas Department of Corrections Levee<br />

The Levee Repair Working Group of <strong>the</strong> Missouri River Flood Task Force, established in<br />

response to <strong>the</strong> Missouri River Basin flood of 2011, reported that <strong>the</strong> following federal and nonfederal<br />

levees in Region L were damaged by <strong>the</strong> flooding.<br />
