Figure 3.74. Locations of Excessive Erosion of Farmland, 1997
Source: Kansas Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2007
Legend
Red: 5,000 acres of highly erodible land
Yellow: 5,000 acres of non-highly erodible land with excessive erosion above the tolerable soil erosion
rate.
Previous Occurrences
No prior occurrences are on record for this region. Because the effects of soil erosion and dust
are normally cumulative it is difficult to gauge when or if it has happened.
Extent
Magnitude: Negligible. Less than 10% of property is severely damaged. The effects of soil
erosion and dust are generally realized over a period of time. The affects of single affects are
negligible, however cumulatively they can impact agricultural production, and raise health
concerns.
Probability of Future Events
There are no solid historical events that can give a good probability, which resulted in the
planning committee rating this hazard as “Possible” within the next five years.
