These hazards were evaluated with regard to historical occurrences, probability, magnitude, duration, warning time, existing mitigation strategies, and the potential impacts on each jurisdiction. The mitigation strategy contained within this update was developed through the consideration of potential threats, hazards, resources, and the willpower available to mitigate their effects. The planning committee for the Region has defined the following goals to support this mitigation strategy: • Goal 1: Reduce or eliminate risk to the people and property of Region L from the impacts of the identified hazards in this plan. • Goal 2: Strive to protect all vulnerable populations, structures, and critical facilities in Region L from the impacts of the identified hazards. • Goal 3: Improve public outreach initiatives to include education, awareness and partnerships with all entities in order to enhance understanding of the risk the Region faces due to the impacts of the identified hazards. v
• Goal 4: Enhance communication and coordination among all agencies and between agencies and the public. Mitigation actions have been developed and prioritized to further the goals of the overall mitigation strategy in each jurisdiction. Upon a final draft approval by FEMA, the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan will be formally adopted by each of the participating jurisdictions. This plan will be updated in five years, as required by FEMA. It will be evaluated and maintained on an annual basis prior to this update. Prerequisites: Regional Plan Adoption Requirement §201.6(c)(5): For multi-jurisdictional plans, each jurisdiction requesting approval of the plan must document that is has been formally adopted.
