Existing Plans and Policies<br />

In partnership with public safety agencies and crisis consultants, <strong>the</strong> school district has a<br />

complete Crisis Communication and Response Plan for <strong>the</strong> safety and security of district<br />

students and staff. It includes such topics as utility failure, off-site emergencies, hazardous<br />

<strong>material</strong>s, severe wea<strong>the</strong>r, fire, and code red and yellow.<br />

O<strong>the</strong>r Mitigation Activities<br />

USD 231 conducts routine fire, tornado, intruder, and evacuation drills in each of <strong>the</strong>ir school<br />

buildings. The district also proved CPR/AED training and re-certification training offered free-ofcharge<br />

to all staff members.<br />

County, USD 232 covers 100+ square<br />

miles. It services <strong>the</strong> jurisdictions of <strong>the</strong><br />

City of De Soto, Lenexa (40%), a portion<br />

of Ola<strong>the</strong> and Shawnee (60%), and <strong>the</strong><br />

Lexington and Ola<strong>the</strong> Townships. The<br />

enrollment for <strong>the</strong> 2012 – 2013 school<br />

year was 6,977 students. The school<br />

district has seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools.<br />
