City of Mission Hills<br />

Mission Hills is located in nor<strong>the</strong>astern Johnson<br />

County and is known for <strong>the</strong>ir many county club<br />

golf courses. The City is surrounded by Mission<br />

Woods, Fairway, Prairie Village, and Kansas<br />

City, Missouri. It has maintained its original plan<br />

conceived in <strong>the</strong> early 1900s of being a garden<br />

community.<br />

Mission Hills elects a Mayor and five citizens to <strong>the</strong><br />

City Council. An appointed City Administrator is responsible for <strong>the</strong> City as <strong>the</strong> chief<br />

administrative officer. Consolidated<br />

Fire District No.2 provides fire protection services for <strong>the</strong> City.<br />

Land Use and Development Trends<br />

In 2010, <strong>the</strong> population of Mission Hills was 3,498, a decrease of 95 people since <strong>the</strong> 2000<br />

census. Land area of <strong>the</strong> city is 2.02 square miles, and <strong>the</strong> population density is 1,732 people<br />

per square mile.<br />

The City of Mission Hills is landlocked and completely built out for future developments of any<br />

kind. However, <strong>the</strong> City does have plans to build a garage and public restroom on City Hall<br />

property.<br />

Technical and Fiscal Resources<br />

Police protection is offered by <strong>the</strong> City of Prairie Village Police Department and fire protection is<br />

provided by Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2. Mission Hills, in conjunction with<br />

Prairie Village, has an ultra high speed telephone communications service for emergency<br />

notifications called Code RED. This is used to alert residents of emergency or life-threatening<br />

situations and public safety issues.<br />

Financial tools and resources that could potentially help Mission Hills fund mitigation initiatives<br />

is as follows.<br />
