Overview<br />

The jurisdiction Johnson County includes all unincorporated areas within <strong>the</strong> County<br />

boundaries, and 7 townships. Johnson County is a full service local government including <strong>the</strong><br />

Land Use and Development Trends<br />

As depicted in <strong>the</strong> regional information section, Johnson County is <strong>the</strong> fastest growing of all <strong>the</strong><br />

counties in <strong>the</strong> region, as well as <strong>the</strong> State of Kansas. Since 2000, <strong>the</strong> population has grown by<br />

20.64%, which contributes to construction, employment, services, and all o<strong>the</strong>r aspects of <strong>the</strong><br />

economy. Because of its urban landscape it is attractive to young adults and <strong>the</strong> elderly who<br />

are entering retirement and/or want to be closer to advanced medical facilities.<br />

Technical and Fiscal Resources<br />

Johnson County is included in <strong>the</strong> definition of <strong>the</strong> Metro Region, and along with that<br />

nomenclature, it has <strong>the</strong> resources to fund a plethora of staff resources in planning, engineering,<br />

floodplain management, storm water management, emergency management, and GIS services.<br />

The Johnson County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) dispatches all 911 calls to Fire<br />

and Emergency Medical Services for 14 departments throughout <strong>the</strong> county. Table 2.8 depicts<br />

Johnson County personnel resources in 2013.<br />
