Evaluation of critical city facilities<br />

shelter. OP has listed<br />

several critical facilities on our<br />

emergency operations plans which<br />

need to be evaluated per<br />

contemporary standards for use<br />

and compliance as community<br />

shelters, storm shelters and safe<br />

rooms. Once evaluation is<br />

completed, upgrade facilities as<br />

needed.<br />

Electronic Plan Review and<br />

Recording. Building code<br />

enforcement is recognized as one<br />

of <strong>the</strong> most effective tools to<br />

provide for mitigation of damage<br />

to our vertical built environment.<br />

Technology related to building<br />

code enforcement is rapidly<br />

changing particularly as <strong>the</strong> design<br />

professionals continue to move<br />

toward <strong>the</strong> use of business<br />

information modeling (BIM). OP<br />

has initiated research activities<br />

related to electronic plan <strong>review</strong><br />

hardware and software. Going<br />

forward a task force consisting of<br />

City Staff, designers, contractors,<br />

and o<strong>the</strong>r interested parties would<br />

be assembled to develop a<br />

program, research specific needs,<br />

and interview software companies.<br />

Public education of city businesses,<br />

home owners and residents and all<br />

city staff in OP for disaster<br />

preparedness, mitigation and<br />

recovery. Train citizens and<br />

businesses in moving away from<br />
