Course Description
Language for systematically writing a scientific paper:
� Stringent and written recording of ideas and contents
� Academic writing techniques
� Writing an individual seminar paper in cooperation with the research seminar

Evaluation
Peer feedback and instructor assessment of assignments. The percentages awarded to
the individual assignments are as follows: Homework 1 (text analysis): 10%, Homework
2 (thesis statement and outline): 20%; Homework 3 (introduction): 20%; Homework 4
(first draft of final paper): 20%; Homework 5 (final paper): 30%. Note that late
submissions will receive a lower grade.
Teaching Methods
We will be looking at samples of model writing in which relevant features will be
identified. Students will be guided through the stages of academic writing and then given
tasks in which they will produce their own texts.
Students will critique their fellow students‘ texts in class and make suggestions for
improvement.
