In Part 2: The goal is to elucidate the function of a specific gene. The students will
perform either alone or in groups of 2, by means of a rotation system, different
experiments: Transfection methods, migration assays, Fluorescence microscopy, Realtime
PCR (optional) Anoikis assays (apoptosis/necrosis), Luciferase (Reporter) assays.
Teaching Concept
The students will practically perform all assays, upon instruction by the lecturers and will
write the protocol in the form of a manuscript.

Learning Outcomes/ Course Objectives
Regenerative medicine and nanobiotechnology are emerging fields in biotechnology. The
students will be introduced into tissue and organ culture as well as the used methods and
equipment. They will get an overview about the application of micro- and nanoparticles
used in biotechnology (diagnostics, drug delivery, magnetic nanoparticles, biochips,
intelligent implants etc.).
