In this lecture you will be introduced in the principles of eukaryotic cells and tissues. You
will learn the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells (mainly structure),
and the different use in science and industry.

Course Description
Upon completion of this lecture, you are expected to:
Be familiar with the structure and morphology of eukaryotic cells, cell cycle and cell cycle
regulation as well as gene expression, processing and protein targeting.
Understand the principles of cell growth in bacterial and mammalian cells and their
specific characteristics.
Have basic knowledge about gene manipulation and expression systems.

Learning Outcomes / Course Objectives
The students shall develop an understanding of the most fundamental physiological
principles that underlie regulation, adaptation, and homeostasis -all mechanisms and
concepts that can be applied on a wide variety of physiologic and pathologic processes.
Knowledge of these concepts should facilitate the intellectual approach to the body´s
functions, be it on a macro- or micro-level.
