Course Description
Students will review past tense and imperative forms. The verbs-system as stems and
radicals will be introduced to them, especially the hollow verbs. Dual-forms and pluralforms
of the possessive pronouns will also be taught, as well as relative and
demonstrative pronouns. Knowledge in the tenses, prepositions, vocative, numerals,
adjectives and adverbs will be deepened. Students will learn how to tell the time (date,
months, days, etc.).
The lessons from 8 to 16 will cover the topics ‗at the doctor‘s‘, ‗the family‘, ‗in the street‘,
‗at the post-office‘, ‗how to send a telegraph‘, ‗how to make a phone-call‘, ‗telling the
time‘, ‗at the market‘.
The students will learn in this semester how to use the dictionary, after having
knowledge of the radical-system in the Arabic language. Also business Arabic will be
taught using economic terminology. There will be a lecture about economy in the Arabic
world, too.

Teaching Methods
The course will consist of both lecture and interactive parts.
Students‘ knowledge of grammar and vocabulary will increase through additional
exercises and by using tapes, newspapers and videos
Students should be trained in listening and comprehension.

Learning Outcomes / Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to improve the students‘ communicative competence in
real-life situations. The focus will be put on everyday dialogues, to help students to
master their first stay in China without major problems.
Upon the successful completion of the semester students will:
� be able to use basic sentences related to topics treated in this semester
� have improved his / her listening comprehension of semi-authentic Chinese
listening texts
� have a basic understanding of the use of Chinese online resources
� be able to type Chinese characters on a computer.
