Viewing profile details<br />

Viewing profile details UM-327<br />

The Profiler increases visibility into simulation performance <strong>and</strong> memory usage with<br />

dynamic links to the Source window <strong>and</strong> the Profile Details pane. The Profile Details pane<br />

is enabled by selecting View > Profile > View Details or by entering the view<br />

profile_details comm<strong>and</strong> at the VSIM prompt. You can also right-click any function or<br />

instance in the Ranked, Call Tree or Structural views to open a popup menu that includes<br />

options for viewing profile details. The following options are available:<br />

View Source<br />

When View Source is selected the Source window opens to the location of the selected<br />

function in the source code.<br />

Function Usage<br />

When Function Usage is selected, the Profile Details pane opens <strong>and</strong> displays all instances<br />

using the selected function. In the Profile Details pane shown below, all the instances using<br />

function Tcl_Close are displayed. The statistical performance <strong>and</strong> memory allocation data<br />

shows how much simulation time <strong>and</strong> memory is used by Tcl_Close in each instance.<br />

Instance Usage<br />

When Instance Usage is selected all instances with the same definition as the selected<br />

instance will be displayed in the Profile Details pane.<br />

View Instantiation<br />

When View Instantiation is selected the Source window opens to the point in the source<br />

code where the selected instance is instantiated.<br />
