Expression and Breastfeeding duration<br />

An insufficient number of studies were available to make a <strong>for</strong>mal evidence statement.<br />

All three cohort studies available showed that mothers who expressed breastmilk had a longer<br />

duration of breastfeeding. In several narrative <strong>review</strong>s or uncontrolled studies, expression of<br />

breastmilk was advocated as an appropriate measure to enable mothers to return to<br />

employment and continue breastfeeding.<br />

More research on breastmilk expression and breastfeeding outcomes is needed.<br />
