neutral studies), 1 level III-1 study (positive) and 5 level<br />

III-2 studies (1 neutral, remainder positive). 2 crosssectional<br />

and 1 pre-test post test study not extracted.<br />

Consistency Good Fairly consistent that there is no effect of egg consumption<br />

on risk of CVD (15 No Effect (11 RCT studies, 1 III-1<br />

study, 3 cohort studies); 4 showed increased risk (2 cohort<br />

studies and 2 RCT showed slight increases in one measure<br />

of blood lipids).<br />

Clinical impact Poor Majority of ORs cross 1 or p value not significant <strong>for</strong><br />

differences between groups <strong>for</strong> RCTs.<br />

Generalisability Good Populations in body of evidence relevant to adults of most<br />

ages and genders and also include Australian Aborigines,<br />

infants and older people.<br />

Applicability Excellent Directly applicable to Australian healthcare context<br />
