Breastmilk exposure had a significant protective effect
(OR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.51-0.94; P = .02) in developing
One additional study has been published since this review (Gearry, Richardson et al. 2010). This is an additional case-control study from NZ
with 638 prevalent Crohn's disease and 653 prevalent ulcerative colitis cases. A protective effect for breastfeeding was found in this study. The
authors recommend further research on a duration-response protective association.
