Birth weight and breastfeeding<br />

If the infant is not admitted to NICU, the rate of breastfeeding is not related to birthweight<br />

For LBW infants (outside the scope of this <strong>review</strong>) every ef<strong>for</strong>t is now made to facilitate<br />

breastfeeding. Expressed breastmilk is a factor in reducing the incidence of necrotizing<br />

enterocolitis in NICUs (James and Lessen 2009; Renfrew, Craig et al. 2009; Bartick and<br />

Reinhold 2010).<br />
