ways and means of speeding up the verification process.
In order to make the joint verification mechanism more effective and fruitful, it
was proposed in their next meeting that the two Foreign Ministers would review
the current verification process based on the experiences gained by the JVT.
While discussing about finding ways to accelerate the verification process, it is
intended to work out ways and means to facilitate a flawless, fair and
comprehensive verification process within the framework of the agreed
mechanism. Furthermore, the subject of simultaneous completion of verification
and harmonization of positions on the four agreed categories will also be taken
up in accordance with the requirements of the agreed mechanism.
The Foreign Minister informed the house that some countries have suggested to
meet the members of the JVT and observe the verification process. However,
such requests were turned down in view of the fact that such interference from
other countries may jeopardize the verification process.
During the 10 th MJC, deliberations were also held on ways to build confidence,
increase interaction, and strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two
countries. During this meeting, possible cooperation in the areas of trade and
tourism, exchange of high level visits and cultural delegations were explored.
As a result of the above discussions, a delegation led by the Mayor of
Kathmandu visited Bhutan in July 2001.
Concluding his presentation, the Foreign Minister pledged that the Royal
Government would strive towards finding a lasting solution to the problem
between Nepal and Bhutan in accordance with the wishes, advice and guidance
of the National Assembly.
