It is possible that the rural electrification programme in the 9 th plan will come across some obstruction. Although a budget of Nu.2500 million was estimated initially for the Kurichu Hydro Power Project, it has crossed over Nu.7266 million. Nevertheless, works are continuing without considering the cost implications in view of the immense benefit it will accrue to the people. The cost of laying approximately 319 kilometres of transmission line will be sought as assistance from the Government of India. The presence of ULFA- Bodo militants in the country has posed great threat to the security and independence of the country. Although there is great risk that the economic development activities will be threatened, the Hon’ble Minister expressed his hope that the project, would be completed within this year for the present and future benefit of the people as desired by His Majesty the King.
