Out of the 45 volunteers sent recently as recruits for the regular army, 23 were accepted by the army after checking their physical fitness. He said that the strong bond of loyalty and commitment between the government and people is of utmost importance for ensuring and sustaining the security and sovereignty of the country. The Chimi pledged the total commitment of the people to provide unwavering support to the Royal Government to overcome any problem and challenge facing the country. The people’s representatives of Wangdi Phodrang, Trashigang, Pema Gatshel and Zhemgang Dzongkhags expressed their appreciation for receiving copies of the agreed minutes of the meeting held between the Royal Government and the ULFA militants. They said that the positive outcome of the talks was a result of His Majesty the King having assumed full responsibility for national security 94
and working to this end without even considering his own personal safety. It was also a result of the tireless and unfailing efforts made by the members of the Lhengye Zhungtshog. They expressed their hope that the ULFA militants will remove four of their camps by December this year in keeping with the agreed minutes of the meeting held with them. However, if they do not implement the agreement given by them, the Royal Government should not continue looking for a peaceful solution to remove the militants from Bhutanese territory. The Chimis also requested His Majesty to limit his visits to the high security risk areas. The long reign and continued leadership of His Majesty the King is of utmost importance for ensuring the security and sovereignty of the country and continued peace and happiness for the Bhutanese people. The Chukha Dzongda submitted that, as per the resolution of the 78 th Session of National Assembly, a series of meetings had been convened with the Government employees, business communities and people in the Dzongkhags to explain the measures that had been decided to deal with the problem posed by the militants, and safeguard the security of the country. In Phuentsholing, the Government employees and business community had expressed their deep concern over the security threat facing the country and pledged to protect and ensure the security of Phuentsholing town. The people in the villages are also deeply concerned over the problem and have pledged to do everything possible to safeguard the security of the country. They also appealed to His Majesty the King to cut down the royal visits to the high security risk areas. Recognizing the importance of safeguarding the security of the country the people have called for militia training to be imparted to all able-bodied men. He said that a four point strategy should be pursued to resolve the security problem facing the country.
