Of the five killed, four were forest guards, and one, son of Panbang Chimi who<br />

has completed class XII. As commanded by His Majesty the King, the four<br />

serious patients were brought to Thimphu National Referral Hospital for<br />

treatment. The four other were being treated at the Gelephu hospital. One of the<br />

injured was a student – a four-year old girl.<br />

The Hon’ble Minister informed that although the Royal Bhutan Police and<br />

Assam Police are investigating the incident, the militant group responsible for<br />

the attack could not be identified yet. The Council of Ministers held an<br />

emergency meeting as soon as the news of the attack was reported.<br />

Furthermore, the Hon’ble Home and Foreign Ministers have called upon the<br />

Indian ambassador. The ambassador expressed deep regret and gave full<br />

assurance that a full investigation will be conducted, and the perpetrators<br />

apprehended and brought to justice.<br />

Although the Dasho Dzongda of the area where the incident took place are<br />

attending the National Assembly session, the Dungpa, Administrative Officer,<br />

the Superintendent and Commanding Officer of the Royal Bhutan Police are in<br />

close contact with the officials of the Assam government.<br />

On hearing about the unfortunate incident, His Majesty immediately<br />

commanded that the Royal Bhutan Army take care of and provide every<br />

necessary support to the victims of the unprovoked attack. Besides, His Majesty<br />

also commanded that the Department of Forestry Services co-ordinate the<br />

funeral ceremony of those who died in the attack.<br />

As commanded by His Majesty the King, the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture<br />

immediately discharged Dasho Ugyen Thinley, Director of the Forestry<br />

Department to Gelephu to look after the remains of the deceased. The Hon’ble<br />

Home Minister expressed condolences of the Ministry of Home Affairs and of<br />

the National Assembly to the bereaved family members. He emphasized the<br />
