About the authors<br />

Dr John R. Butcher has adjunct appointments as an <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>and</strong> New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />

School of Government (ANZSOG) Research Fellow in the School of <strong>Politics</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

InternationalRelationsatthe<strong>Australian</strong>NationalUniversity<strong>and</strong>asaresearch<br />

fellow in the John Curtin Institute of Public <strong>Policy</strong> within the Curtin Business<br />

School at Curtin University. His principal research focuses on the relationship<br />

between government <strong>and</strong> the not-for-profit sector. He is the co-editor (with David<br />

Gilchrist) of Thethreesectorsolution(2016) <strong>and</strong> co-author (with John Wanna <strong>and</strong><br />

Ben Freyens) of <strong>Policy</strong> in action (2010).<br />

Trish Mercer is an ANZSOG Visiting Fellow at the <strong>Australian</strong> National University<br />

<strong>and</strong> a regular presenter in the Crawford School’s Executive Education Program.<br />

Trish has a doctorate in history from ANU <strong>and</strong> a diploma in American studies from<br />

Smith College (USA). As a former senior executive in the <strong>Australian</strong> public service,<br />

Trish had a diverse career incorporating policy <strong>and</strong> program development, research<br />

<strong>and</strong> evaluation, <strong>and</strong> direct service delivery. Her social policy research interests<br />

include early childhood, schools <strong>and</strong> employment services. Her current ANZSOG<br />

research project explores how theories of the policy process can be transferred <strong>and</strong><br />

taken into practice.<br />
