Jock Given researches, writes <strong>and</strong> teaches about media <strong>and</strong> communications policy,<br />

business, law <strong>and</strong> history. He is professor of media <strong>and</strong> communications at<br />

Swinburne University of Technology <strong>and</strong> was previously director of the<br />

Communications Law Centre, policy adviser at the <strong>Australian</strong> Film Commission<br />

<strong>and</strong> director of legislation <strong>and</strong> industry economics at the federal Department of<br />

Transport <strong>and</strong> Communications. His work has been published in journals<br />
