Il documento finale della conferenzaPrimo Pianothe initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and withthe support of the Municipality of Rome and of the ItalianMinistry for Labour and Social Policies.The high level representatives of international and regionalorganisations, countries and cities across the world took uponthemselves to pursue the valuable work undertaken so far andbuild upon the best practices developed and concrete proposalsmade to address the challenges faced by inter-ethnic and interculturalcities.Participants highlighted the importance of ensuring a continuousinvolvement of civil society organisations and academicsin the process of devising and implementing measures to respondto the problems of today’s inter-ethnic cities.They took note of various concrete proposals, including acomprehensive project proposal aimed at responding to individuals’needs and demands through an urban environmentdesigned to promote respect and civil coexistence among differentpeoples. Today’s cities are going through a complex transitionthat requires new functions, activities and services. Participantshave discussed the possibility of creating new facilitating roles,and among others the idea of having an “inter-ethnic guarantor”who would advice municipalities on multi-cultural issues.Participants agreed to pursue efforts aimed at placing theissue of urban transformation at the heart of the agenda of selectedinternational agencies and programmes with a view to takingappropriate action at the level of the relevant United Nationsbodies, including the possibility of a resolution of the GeneralAssembly.libertàcivili162011 luglio-agosto
