His principal areas of research are modern and contemporaryhistory, the relationship between history and memory, methods of oral history, andCzechoslovak resistance to German occupation.Jiří Pešek (1954) is Professor of History and Deputy Director of the Institute ofInternational Studies, Charles University, Prague, where he is also Head of theDepartment of German and Austrian Studies. His research covers a broad range,but is focused on topics in cultural history from the Middle Ages to the present andtwentieth-century German history. He is co-author of several books and author ofnumerous articles. A thematically compiled collection of his reviews was publishedas Německé dějiny optikou recenzenta (Prague, 2004).Jaroslav Vaculík (1947) is a docent at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University,Brno, where he lectures in world history from the seventeenth to the twentiethcentury. His chief research interest is Czech minorities abroad, about which hehas published widely, including the three-volume Dějiny volyňských Čechů (Prague,1997, 1998, and 2001).
