In this lesson, you learn how to use the Automated System Recovery Wizard, which<br />

helps you back up your system partition so that you can restore it in case it is lost or<br />

damaged because of some type of disaster.<br />

Overview of the Automated System Recovery Wizard<br />

The Automated System Recovery Wizard is one of the three wizards provided by the<br />

Backup Utility (see Figure 20-8). Automated System Recovery (ASR) is intended to<br />

allow you to restore your computer after a major failure. The Automated System Recovery<br />

Wizard creates a backup in two parts:<br />

■ A floppy disk (referred to as a system recovery disk) that contains hard drive configuration<br />

information<br />

■ A full backup of your local system partition on tape or as a file located on a network<br />

server<br />

After creating the system recovery disk and full backup, you can boot your computer by<br />

using the disk and run an automated system recovery process to restore your computer.<br />
