Why This Chapter Matters<br />

Microsoft Windows XP Professional provides features that make installing, configuring,<br />

and managing hardware devices easier than ever. The Plug and Play specification,<br />

taken advantage of by most modern hardware, makes installation and<br />

configuration of devices nearly automatic. Device Manager provides a single<br />

interface for configuring and troubleshooting hardware devices on a computer.<br />

This chapter introduces the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of<br />

hardware devices in Windows XP Professional. It also teaches how to configure<br />

hardware profiles and work with hardware drivers.<br />
