6. In the Other Network File And Print Services dialog box, select the Print Services<br />

For UNIX check box, and then click OK.<br />

7. In the Windows Optional Networking Components Wizard, click Next.<br />

8. When the installation completes, close the Network Connections window.<br />

To connect to an LPR network printer, follow these steps:<br />

1. From the Start menu, click Printers And Faxes.<br />

2. In the Printers And Faxes window, click Add A Printer.<br />

3. In the Add Printer Wizard, on the Welcome To The Add Printer Wizard page, click<br />

Next.<br />

4. On the Local Or Network Printer page, click Local Printer Attached To This Computer,<br />

and clear the Automatically Detect And Install My Plug And Play Printer<br />

check box. Click Next.<br />

5. On the Select A Printer Port page, click Create A New Port, and on the Type Of<br />

Port drop-down list, select LPR Port. Click Next.<br />

Note If LPR Port is not available, make sure that the optional networking component Print<br />

Services For UNIX is installed. Click Cancel to exit the Add Printer Wizard.<br />

6. In the Add LPR Compatible Printer dialog box, in the Name Or Address Of Server<br />

Providing LPD text box, type the DNS name or IP address of the host of the printer<br />

you are adding. In the Name Of Printer Or Print Queue On That Server text box,<br />

type the name of the print queue. Click OK.<br />

Note The host can be the direct-connect TCP/IP printing device or the UNIX computer to<br />

which the printer is connected. The DNS name can be the name specified for the host in the<br />

HOSTS file. LPD is a service on the print server that receives documents (print jobs) from the<br />

LPR utilities running on client systems.<br />

7. Follow the directions onscreen to complete the installation of the TCP/IP printer.<br />

How to Configure Client Computers So Users Can Print<br />

After you add and share a printer, you need to set up client computers so that users can<br />

print. Although the tasks to set up client computers vary depending on which operating<br />

systems are running on the client computers, all client computers require installation<br />

of a printer driver. The following points summarize the installation of printer<br />

drivers according to the computer’s operating system:
