27-22 Chapter 27 Configuring, Managing, and Troubleshooting Security
Objective 7.4
Configure, Manage, and
Troubleshoot Internet Explorer
Security Settings
When Web browsers were new, they were simple tools for displaying HTML files. As
time went on, Web browsers gained more and more functionality. Today, Internet
Explorer is an extremely complex tool that requires a great deal of knowledge to configure,
manage, and troubleshoot.
Especially after installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, you must have a detailed
understanding of Internet Explorer security settings. If security settings are too restrictive,
users cannot access Web sites that they need for their jobs. If security settings are
too permissive, malicious Web sites will install spyware or other types of malicious
software on the computers you manage. To successfully maintain Internet Explorer,
you must understand not only how to configure, manage, and troubleshoot it, but also
how to protect it from malicious Web content.
