Exam Highlights
12-35
■ Managing documents includes pausing, resuming, restarting, and canceling documents.
You must have the Manage Documents permission for the appropriate
printer to perform these document management tasks. The creator of a document
has the default permissions to manage that document, so users can perform any of
these actions on their own documents.
■ You can also manage printers from a Web browser in Windows XP Professional.
The print server must be running IIS for Web management to work. You can
access all printers on a print server running IIS by typing http://
print_server_name/printers. You can access a particular printer by typing
http://print_server_name/printer_share_name.
■ When there is a printing problem, always verify that the printer is plugged in,
turned on, and connected to the print server. For a network interface print device,
verify that there is a network connection between the printer and the print server.
Ask questions that help determine whether the problem is with the application,
the document, or the printer.
Exam Highlights
Key Points
Before taking the exam, review the key points and terms that are presented in this
chapter. You need to know this information.
■ The general categories of print permissions are inclusive at progressive levels. The
Print permission offers the least number of rights, basically allowing users to print
to the printer and manage their own documents. The Manage Documents permission
allows all the rights offered by the Print permission and also allows users to
manage other users’ documents. The Manage Printers permission includes all the
rights offered by the Manage Documents permission and allows users to configure
printer settings.
■ Separator pages identify and separate print jobs, and can also be used to switch a
printer to a different print mode. Windows XP includes four separator pages:
sysprint.sep, pcl.sep, pscript.sep, and sysprtj.sep. Sysprint.sep is the most commonly
used separator page.
■ You can redirect all documents for a printer, but not individual documents. Also,
the new printer must use the same printer driver as the current printer.
