20-36 Chapter 20 Backing Up and Restoring Data
2. What two things does the Automated System Recovery Wizard create during a
backup?
3. What two pieces of information do you have to supply to the Automated System
Recovery Wizard?
Lesson Summary
■ The Automated System Recovery Wizard creates a system recover disk (on a
floppy disk) that contains your hard drive configuration, and a backup of your
local system partition on tape or as a file.
■ To start the Automated System Recovery Wizard, you must enable the Advanced
mode of the Backup Utility. Because the Automated System Recovery Wizard
includes a full backup, the process can take an hour or longer.
■ The system and software files are stored in %systemroot%\System32\config. A
backup copy is stored in the %systemroot%\repair folder, and this backup is
refreshed each time you back up the System State data on the computer. You can
use the Recovery Console to replace the current version of each file with the
backed up copy.
Case Scenario Exercise
Scenario
In this exercise, you will read a scenario about backing up a user’s computer and then
answer the questions that follow. If you have difficulty completing this work, review
the material in this chapter before beginning the next chapter. You can find answers to
these questions in the “Questions and Answers” section at the end of this chapter.
You are an administrator working for a company named Blue Yonder Airlines, a company
that rents charter airplanes to businesses across the country. You are working on
a computer that belongs to Andrew, a user in the sales department. Like other employees
in the department, Andrew saves all his documents to his local computer in the My
Documents folder. Andrew keeps a relatively small number of files on his computer—
about 225 MB. However, each user must back up data to a file server on the network
if they want their documents to be included in the company’s backup system. Your
task today is to configure a nightly backup solution for Andrew.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
