System Requirements<br />

While following the practices in this book, it is recommended that you use a computer<br />

that is not your primary workstation because you will be called on to make changes to<br />

the operating system and application configuration. The computer you use must have<br />

the following minimum configuration. All hardware should be listed in the Microsoft<br />

Windows Catalog.<br />

Hardware Requirements<br />

■ Personal computer with an Intel Pentium 233 megahertz (MHz) or faster processor<br />

(300 MHz or faster processor recommended)<br />

■ 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher (128 MB or higher recommended)<br />

■ 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space<br />

■ CD-ROM drive or DVD drive<br />

■ Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution monitor<br />

■ Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device<br />

Additionally, several chapters have practices that require you to have an Internet<br />

connection.<br />

Software Requirements<br />

■ Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 2 (SP2)<br />
