You make unallocated space on basic disks available to the operating system by creating
a partition and then formatting that partition with the file system of your choice.
How to Create a Primary Partition To create a primary partition, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, click Performance And Maintenance.
3. In the Performance And Maintenance window, click Administrative Tools.
4. In the Administrative Tools menu, double-click Computer Management.
Tip You can also open Computer Management by right-clicking the My Computer icon on the
desktop or Start menu, and then clicking Manage.
5. In the Computer Management window, expand the Storage container, and then
click Disk Management.
6. In Disk Management, right-click the unallocated space in which you want to create
the primary partition, as shown in Figure 10-2, and then select New Partition.
