Exercise 2: Change the Startup Type of a Service<br />

1. Right-click Error Reporting Service, and then click Properties.<br />

2. In the Error Reporting Services Properties dialog box, on the General tab, on the<br />

Startup Type drop-down list, click Disabled.<br />

3. Click OK.<br />

4. In the Services window, is the service enabled or disabled? Is the service stopped<br />

or started?<br />

5. Click Stop.<br />

6. Close the Services window.<br />

Exercise 3: Enable a Service with the System Configuration Utility<br />

1. Click Start, and then click Run.<br />

2. In the Run dialog box, type msconfig, and then click OK.<br />

3. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, on the Services tab, clear the check<br />

box next to the Computer Browser service.<br />

4. Click OK.<br />

5. In the System Configuration dialog box, click Restart.<br />

Windows restarts. After restarting, Windows displays the System Configuration<br />

Utility dialog box, warning you that Windows is running in Selective or Diagnostic<br />

mode.<br />

6. Click OK.<br />

7. On the Services tab, is the Computer Browser service stopped or started?<br />

8. Select the check box next to the Computer Browser service, and then click OK.<br />

9. In the System Configuration dialog box, click Restart.<br />
