Lesson 2 Creating and Sharing Local and Remote Folders<br />

In this practice, you use Computer Management to create a new folder and share that<br />

folder on a local computer by using the Shared Folders node in Comptuer Management.<br />

You also use Shared Folders to stop sharing the folder.<br />

Exercise 1: Create a Folder on a Local Computer and Share it by Using Shared<br />

Folders<br />

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.<br />

2. In the Control Panel window, click Performance And Maintenance.<br />

3. In the Performance And Maintenance window, click Administrative Tools.<br />

4. In the Administrative Tools folder, double-click Computer Management.<br />

5. Expand the System Tools node, and then expand the Shared Folders node.<br />

6. Under Shared Folders, click Shares.<br />

7. On the Action menu, click New File Share.<br />

The Create A Shared Folder Wizard starts.<br />

8. On the Create A Shared Folder Wizard page, in the Folder To Share text box, type<br />

C:\Library.<br />

9. In the Share Name text box, type Library.<br />

10. Click Next.<br />

A message box appears, asking you if you want to create C:\Library.<br />

11. Click Yes.<br />

A message box appears, informing you that C:\Library has been created.<br />

12. Click OK.<br />

The Create A Shared Folder Wizard displays a final page of three basic share permission<br />

options and a customizable permissions option, as described in Table<br />

17-4. You can use one of the three basic permissions or you can choose Customize<br />

Share And Folder Permissions to create your own permissions.<br />

13. Click Finish to accept the default permissions option All Users Have Full Control.<br />

The Create A Shared Folder Wizard displays a message box, telling you that the<br />

folder has been successfully shared and asking if you want to create another<br />

shared folder.<br />

14. Click No.<br />

Leave the Computer Management window open for the next exercise.
