Manage and Troubleshoot
Access to Shared Folders
Windows XP Professional is more than a desktop operating system; it is a peer-to-peer
networking platform. Using Windows XP Professional, users can give other users carefully
restricted access to files and printers across the network. Share permissions are
similar to file permissions (when simple file sharing is disabled), but share permissions
can be defined regardless of the underlying file system.
Besides traditional file sharing, Windows XP Professional users also have the option of
creating Web shares. Users access Web shares in the same way as folder shares, or they
can be accessed with a browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer to present a more
interactive Web interface. Web shares rely on the World Wide Web Publishing service
instead of the Server service. The World Wide Web Publishing service is part of IIS,
which is not installed during a standard Windows XP Professional installation.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
