(1) EXTANT: De lingua Latina: six mutilated books survive out of twenty-five.<br />

Completed after July 45 <strong>and</strong> before Cicero's death (Cic. Att. 13.12.3). Bks 2—4<br />

•dedicated to his quaestor P. Septimius, 5—7 (<strong>and</strong> possibly rest of work) to Cicero<br />

(Ling. Lat. 7.109). De re rustica: completed 37 B.C. (1.1.1), but perhaps written in<br />

sections over previous twenty years (see Martin <strong>and</strong> White, under Studies (4) below).<br />

Bk 1 dedicated to his wife Fundania, who has just bought a farm, z to his l<strong>and</strong>owner<br />

friend Turranius Niger, 3 to his neighbour Pinnius.<br />

(2) LOST OR FRAGMENTARY (no. of bks in Roman numerals): Verse. Saturarum<br />

Menippearum CL: about ninety titles <strong>and</strong> 600 fragments preserved; of early date (Cic.<br />

Acad. post. 1.8). Also ten books of'poems', four of satires, six of tragedies. Prose, (a)<br />
