These two affixes are used together as a discontinuous<br />

morpheme with the meaning 'rather, almost, a little bit.'<br />

They are used with adjectives and some verbs.<br />

siiuek 'cool;' meuseunHuek 'rather cool'<br />

kqwien 'to bend;' meukunuwien 'rather bent'<br />

saket 'painful;' meuseunaket 'rather painful'<br />

Note that -eun- is replaced by neu- when the stems have<br />

the phonetic shapes as discussed in 2.1.5.1.5, subsections<br />

[ii] and [iii] .<br />

hijo 'green;' meuneuhiio 'rather green'<br />

itam 'black;' meuneuitam 'rather black'<br />

-eun- is also replaced by neu- when the stem begins<br />

with [g] or [m].<br />

galafc 'to like;' meuneuqalak 'having a feeling to like<br />

(something)'<br />

gabuek 'busy;' meuneugabuek 'rather busy, to look busy'<br />

malee 'shy;' meuneumalee 'rather shy'<br />

mameh 'sweet;' meuneumameh 'rather sweet'<br />

The following is an exception. Both -eun- or neu- is<br />

acceptable.<br />
