5.2.1.3 Complements of "tu-verbs"<br />

By "tu-verbs" is meant verbs formed with the prefix tu-<br />

'to know' (see 2.2.1.4), for example, tupeue 'to know what,'<br />

turi 'to know which one,' tupat 'to know where or the<br />

location,' etc. The complements of these verbs are different<br />

from other complements in that one element of these<br />

complements is contained in these verbs, which are in the<br />

higher clause. These verbs consist of a verbal morpheme tu-<br />

with the meaning 'to know' and a nominal morpheme as its<br />

object. So, each verb means 'to know NP,' and this NP is<br />

either the subject, the object, or an adverb of the<br />

complement.
