Although this has been rejected in Durie (1985 and 1987), the term "passive" will be used in this dissertation to refer to'this type of structure. Acehnese passive has the following characteristics: 1) The subject of a passive sentence is the object of its active counterpart. The subject here is meant the subject as defined in 3.3.1 in this chapter. When this subject is in the initial position, the intonation is as described in 3.2.1.
