The method of forming stems by adding a reduplicative<br />

prefix is also used for verbs of which the stems are<br />

normally formed by epenthesis. Thus, a verb like gruep 'to<br />

embrace' can have two derivations with the same meaning,<br />

g-eun-euruep or g-eun-eugruep 'thing or person that is<br />

embraced, the state of embracing.'<br />

2.1.5.1.3 Variants of -eun-<br />

This infix has three other variants, which are<br />

phonologically conditioned. They are discussed below in<br />

pairs.<br />

[i]. (-eun- : -uja-}. In some dialects, the vowel [eu]<br />

of -aufl- often becomes [u] if the vowel immediately<br />

following -eun- is [u]. This gives a variant in the form of<br />

-aa-.<br />

rolling'<br />
