Peripheral NP's can also be relativized. Relativizing<br />

these NP's often involves the substitution of the<br />

prepositions preceding them.<br />

Constructions similar to relative clauses are non-<br />

restrictive relative clauses. There is only one type of non-<br />

restrictive relative clauses in Acehnese, that is, those<br />

that modifies NP's. Unlike English non-restrictives,<br />

Acehnese non-restrictives are not always separated from the<br />

preceding NP's by a comma break.<br />

Focus sentences are also similar in form to relative<br />

clauses, except that the head NP in relative clauses is<br />

stressed. Some focus sentences in Acehnese are nominal<br />

sentences in the order predicate-subject, where the subject<br />

is in the form of a relative clause.
