This chapter has treated four parts of speech: nouns,<br />

verbs, adjectives and adverbs, with the focus on their<br />

derivations. The affixes used to derive nouns are the infix<br />

-eun-. the prefixes beuranqka- and sa-. Verbs can be derived<br />

with six prefixes and an infix. The prefixes are meu-. peu-.<br />

teu-. tu-. ai-, and ceu-. and the infix is -sum-. In<br />

addition to this, pronominal prefixes are also used to form<br />

verbs. Three forms of affixes are used to derive adjectives:<br />

men-, tsu-, and mey-,,,-eun-<br />

Some of the points discussed here are very important<br />

for later discussions in other chapters. The discussion on<br />

pronouns and their bound forms is important for the<br />

understanding of how agreement works in Acehnese and the<br />

idea of subject or agent cliticization. These both are<br />

discussed in Chapter 4. The subsection on the constraints on<br />

pronoun ordering is closely related to the discussion given<br />

in 3.4 of Chapter 3. Titles, measure nouns, classifiers and<br />

measure phrases are very common elements found in Acehnese<br />

sentences; they are parts of noun phrases discussed in<br />

Chapter 3. Therefore, special subsections have been devoted<br />

to treating them in this chapter.<br />
