In Jespersen's (1924) terms, "particles" include some<br />

of the prefixes and suffixes, articles, prepositions,<br />

conjunctions and interjections. For Acehnese, particles are<br />

roughly defined here as words that do not belong to the<br />

major parts of speech (such as nouns, verbs, adjectives,<br />

etc.) and are used for various functions, such as to give<br />

emphasis to the meaning of another word; to give a certain<br />

additional meaning to an expression, for example result,<br />

forgetfulness, surprise; or to indicate a certain feeling of<br />

the speaker, such as anger, indignation, etc. Some of them<br />

have also a meaning when used in certain constructions.<br />

The following are some of the particles commonly found<br />

in sentences.
