Pronominal clitics are excluded from the structure<br />

because the rules that govern the use of these clitics are<br />

so complex that a special chapter is needed to discuss them.<br />

(They are discussed in Chapter 4.) Adverbs and particles<br />

cannot be given a fixed position in the structure because<br />

some of them are used before the verb and some others after<br />

the verb. (They are treated in 3.3.3.4.) Examples of<br />

sentences containing aspect words, modals, adverbs, and<br />

particles are given in relevant sections below. The<br />

following are sentences with a VP complement. (These are<br />

discussed in Chapter 5.)<br />
